ORTHROS HELP

Your Lamp, Journal, and Settings

Tap the flame on Today to open Your Lamp.

What Your Lamp means

The lamp reflects whether you prayed today. It is not a streak. If a day passes, Orthros invites you to relight it without shame or penalty.

What lives here

Your Lamp is the one private place in Orthros. It gathers:

  • Personal settings
  • Prayer history and the lamp itself
  • Journal and private notes
  • Confession preparation
  • Father's Counsel
  • Recordings you made, imported, or previously saved
  • Parish information
  • Appearance and reading preferences
  • Scripture and study preferences
  • Sound, Bell / Censer, ambience, and downloaded audio
  • Widgets, Apple Watch, CarPlay, and device setup
  • Privacy and sync limits
  • Account, source, website, and support links

Private writing

Journal entries, confession preparation, and a priest's counsel are sensitive personal data. One Face ID switch in Settings locks your journal and confession notes together; Father's Counsel keeps its own, separate lock. Current TestFlight builds can share this structured data through your private iCloud account because private sync is on by default.

Appearance & Reading

Appearance & Reading controls the way Orthros feels while you read:

  • Theme, including following the device, following the day, holding Day, or holding Vigil
  • Text comfort for long reading
  • Calendar style and week preference where applicable
  • Bible and reading preferences where they affect long pages

Scripture & Study

Scripture & Study controls which Bible wording you read and which study companions appear beside the text.

Every prayer, life, Scripture page, and substantial text remains readable for free. Orthros+ may add recorded voice or study wiring around a text, but it must not lock the text itself.

Your Journey

Your Journey is where personal setup belongs:

  • Your Place, such as Orthodox, catechumen, or inquiring
  • Patron saint
  • Name day
  • Parish information
  • Priest or blessing context when a prayer rule has been given
  • Prayer rhythm and history

Sound & Recordings

Sound & Recordings includes:

  • Bell / Censer opening and sound-effect settings
  • Ambience level
  • Downloaded audio on this device
  • Personal recordings imported or previously saved
  • Apple Music or Spotify openings where Orthros does not ship its own recording

Bringing in a recording you made

Downloaded audio, personal recording files, recording titles, and recording shelves remain local to the device that holds them.

  1. 1.In Voice Memos, find the recording and use its Share button to send it to Files, choosing a folder you can find again.
  2. 2.In Orthros, tap Import Voice Memo or audio and choose that file.

Widgets & Devices

Your Lamp is also the place to understand device surfaces:

  • iPhone and iPad widgets
  • Mac desktop widgets
  • Apple Watch widgets, complications, and the Watch app
  • CarPlay audio

Privacy & Sync

Private iCloud sync is on by default for prayer history, prayer-rope sessions, journals, confession preparation, priest counsel, rules, favorites, Scripture notes, The Way and path progress, parish details, attendance, and the approved preference allowlist on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Use the same iCloud account and open Orthros on each device so it can reconcile. Your local data stays available when iCloud is offline.

The preference allowlist covers calendar style, week start, theme, Bible edition, prayer wording, reading scale, service language, name day, church, and jurisdiction.

Personal recording files, recording titles and shelves, downloads, widget snapshots, and diagnostics remain local-only.

Quick reference

  • Tap the flame on Today to open Your Lamp. In order, it holds: the lamp and your week's candles, Journal, The Rule Kept, For Confession, Father's Counsel, Chant, Ambience & Sound, Find a Parish, and Settings.
  • One privacy detail worth knowing plainly: Journal and Confession share a single Face ID lock. Father's Counsel has its own, separate lock.
