Library and Search

Find a prayer, Scripture passage, saint, teaching, recording, or saved text, then open the result with its source.

Browse the Library

The Library is arranged into rooms for Scripture, prayer, worship, faith, saints, spiritual life, parables, chant, and listening. Open a room to see its shelves and source-backed material.

Chant pieces with an available Orthros recording show a player beside the text and a source row for that recording. Orthros Recordings gathers the founder-recorded hymns and services included with the app, while From the Liturgy collects five hymns from Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago.

Search by source

Search can find:

  • Prayers
  • Saints and feasts
  • Scripture passages
  • Services and hymnography
  • Orthodox practices and terms
  • Parables and spiritual reading
  • Audio that exists in Orthros

When a Library screen offers more than one source, choose a source first and then search within it. Switching sources refreshes the search field for the newly selected source.

Why sources are shown

Orthros does not invent a spiritual answer. It retrieves relevant material and shows the source before you open it.

Preview before opening

When several sources match, choose the source that answers your question. VoiceOver reads the source choices before the open action.

Save something

Use Saved to keep a doorway back to a text. Saving does not alter the original source.

Sources and licensing

Every shipped prayer, translation, life, recording, and substantial text must carry an approved source. Ancient subject matter does not automatically make a modern English translation or recording public domain.

  • Open a recorded chant piece to read its text and use the recording player together.
  • On iPhone, use the magnifying-glass control. On iPad and Mac, Search is also a standing destination. ⌘K opens Search on Mac.
  • The search on this help website finds articles and website pages. The search inside Orthros finds material in the app.
