Guard the eyes
Guard the eyes closes adult websites on this iPhone or iPad. It uses Apple's own adult-website filter and a short list of forty more sites kept by Orthros. It works in Safari and in apps that open web pages. Safari Private Browsing stays off while the guard is kept. The guard is free, and it is apart from your fasts: no lift, pause or end of a fast reaches it. Orthros never sees, keeps or sends what you visit. It is not offered on Mac.
Keeping the guard
Open Watchfulness, find Guard the eyes, and choose Keep the guard. Apple asks for Screen Time access first.
Lifting the guard
Once kept, the guard holds for thirty days, and nothing in Orthros lifts it sooner. The card shows the date it can be lifted from. After the thirty days, Begin to lift the guard opens a pause with lines of the Fathers on the senses, on watch, and against despair. Lift the guard unlocks only at the hundredth knot of the prayer rope, prayed in place. Leaving the rope sets the knots aside. Keeping the guard again after a lift begins a new thirty days.
What the guard cannot do
An adult can always remove Orthros's Screen Time access in Settings, or delete the app, and the guard goes with it. Orthros notices when it next opens and asks again with Give Screen Time access again. The guard is a help and not a promise. Bring any struggle to your priest or confessor.
The stronger guard
While the guard is kept, Add the stronger guard adds a second filter at the level of the network. Web addresses on this phone are looked up through Cloudflare for Families, a free service that declines adult and harmful sites. It only adds blocking.
One step remains in Settings: General, then VPN & Device Management, then DNS. Choose Orthros there. While it is on, this phone's DNS lookups, the names of the sites it reaches, go to Cloudflare instead of your network's provider. Orthros still sees nothing. While a VPN is connected, it uses its own lookups. The stronger guard is lifted together with the guard.
The strongest guard
Apple's Screen Time can keep adult websites closed even when Orthros is removed, if someone you trust holds its passcode: your spouse, a sponsor, your confessor or a trusted friend.
- 1.Give your phone to the person you trust.
- 2.In Settings, they open Screen Time and set a Screen Time passcode that you do not know. They may use their own Apple Account to recover it.
- 3.In Screen Time, they turn on Content & Privacy Restrictions, open App Store, Media, Web, & Games, then Web Content, and choose Limit Adult Websites.
- 4.They may also set Deleting Apps to Don't Allow, under iTunes & App Store Purchases.
Only their passcode can then change it. The names of these menus differ a little between versions of iOS. Orthros cannot make these changes for you.
