What a prayer rule is
A prayer rule is a regular pattern of prayer. It is ideally received with guidance from a priest. Orthros lets you write down that rule as it was given.
If you do not have a rule yet, Orthros offers a modest morning and evening starter. It is a beginning, not a substitute for pastoral guidance.
Start a session
Open Pray, then select your morning rule, evening rule, or another prayer. During a session, Orthros keeps the interface quiet and removes unrelated controls.
If you leave before finishing, Orthros can remember your place. Returning matters more than measuring completion.
Write down a priest-given rule
Choose Write down a rule, then enter the prayers and order your priest gave you. The purpose is faithful transcription, not designing the most impressive routine.
Komboskini
A komboskini is a prayer rope used to support repeated prayer, especially the Jesus Prayer. Orthros can help count knots or hold a timed period without turning the practice into points. Ask your priest if you need direction about the form, number, or frequency.
Diptychs
Diptychs are lists of living and departed people remembered in prayer. Use them to keep names you intend to bring before God. They are private personal data.
If you miss a day
There is no streak to repair. Begin again with today's prayer.
Quick reference
- The featured rule card shows a ring around the word “BEGIN,” plus a line naming what you're about to pray, for instance “12 prayers · the starter rule.”
- Beneath it: “Amend the rule” and a reminder button if you already keep one, or “Make this rule your own” if you're still using the starter.
- Leaving a session partway through is never destructive. “Your place is kept,” and “You left off here” picks it back up, even after closing the app.
- A moon icon in the session toolbar dims the screen and hides the tab bar, for stillness.
