Prayer Rules and Sessions

Start a morning or evening rule, change the prayer language, and return to a session you left unfinished.

What a prayer rule is

A prayer rule is a regular pattern of prayer. It is ideally received with guidance from a priest. Orthros lets you write down that rule as it was given.

If you do not have a rule yet, Orthros offers a modest morning and evening starter. It is a beginning, not a substitute for pastoral guidance.

Start a session

1. 1.Open Pray and check the name of the featured rule.
2. 2.Choose Begin to open its first prayer.
3. 3.Use the previous and next controls at the bottom to move between prayers.
4. 4.Open Prayer Language to choose English, Greek, or Greek (Phonetic) where a reviewed version exists. A prayer without that alternative remains in English.

Orthros remembers the last language you chose for Morning and Evening Prayer. Daily Prayer, individual prayers, and Prayer Reading settings use the same preference. If a prayer does not have your preferred language, it appears in English without changing that saved choice.

Use the text-size control to adjust reading comfort. If you leave before finishing, Orthros keeps your place so you can return.

Write down a priest-given rule

Open Pray, then Manage in Rule & Reminders. Use the rule options to record the prayers and order your priest gave you. The purpose is faithful transcription, not designing the most impressive routine.

Komboskini

A komboskini is a prayer rope used to support repeated prayer, especially the Jesus Prayer. Orthros can help count knots or hold a timed period without turning the practice into points. Ask your priest if you need direction about the form, number, or frequency.

Diptychs

Diptychs are lists of living and departed people remembered in prayer. Use them to keep names you intend to bring before God. They are private personal data.

If you miss a day

There is no streak to repair. Begin again with today's prayer.
